Kris Porter is the K4/K5 teacher for NBCCS and serves on the Board of Directors. Kris grew up on a farm in northwest Illinois. In 1980, she attended William Woods College with the intention of being an equestrian major. God had different plans for Kris, and she graduated in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in physical education and a minor in equestrian science. In 2004, Kris received a master’s degree in pedagogy with a concentration in physical education from Central Missouri State University.
In 1985, Kris married Jack Gilman, a lifelong Callawegian. Jack and Kris were happily married for 19 years before God called Jack home in 2004. Our God being so good, He gave Kris another wonderful godly man to marry. In 2014, Kris married Ron Porter, and they were happily married for 6 years before God called Ron home in 2020.
Kris started her teaching career in 1988 as a special education paraprofessional at South Callaway R-II Schools. In 1995, she began teaching K-4 Physical Education at South Callaway. In 1999, when South Callaway built the early childhood building, Kris taught K-2 Physical Education until her retirement in 2015.
During her career at South Callaway, she also coached Special Olympics, high school track and field, and the high school drill team. Kris’s church home is the Because He Lives Cowboy Church in New Bloomfield, MO. Kris is on the praise and worship team, and she loves serving the Lord.
Kris believes that Christian education is desperately needed today. She says, “I believe Christian education is more important than ever in light of what is going on in the world. Ethics and morality are becoming less and less important. The truth of God’s Word is being sugar-coated, omitted, or changed by ways of the world. Why Christian education? Jesus! Jesus is the reason for Christian education.”
Kris is excited about her role as teacher and board member for NBCCS, sharing, “I am looking forward to NBCCS coming to life! I look forward to being a servant of God and making a significant, positive impact on the lives of each child in my classroom and NBCCS. I am most excited about teaching in a Christian school where I can teach the children about Jesus’s love for each one of them!”
Kris believes this verse points the way to educating the next generation: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
