Susie Woods is the vice chairwoman for the board of directors of NBCCS. She received her bachelor’s degree in marketing management and early childhood development from William Woods University. Since graduating in 1988, she has volunteered and served as a substitute teacher in her children’s schools as well as worked at Missouri Rural Services Corporation, an insurance brokerage. In 1992, she helped form the Missouri Rural Services Workers’ Compensation Insurance Trust and is currently the chairwoman of its of Board of Trustees.
Susie is active in the New Bloomfield community, owning and operating the New Bloomfield Community Betterment LLC (also known as the New Bloomfield Event Center) since 2008. Susie is excited to see NBCCS use this building for classes, extracurricular activities, and physical education.
Since volunteering and giving back to the community is very important to Susie, she has served her community in multiple roles. Each Sunday morning, she sings with the music group at Because He Lives Cowboy Church. In 2011, she had a vision for an “Academic Booster Club,” prompting her to work with others to form the New Bloomfield Education Foundation, a nonprofit which has donated tens of thousands of dollars to the New Bloomfield RIII School District in the form of teacher grants for classroom supplies, whiteboards, books, and many other wonderful educational items. She has also served as the secretary for the New Bloomfield Alumni Association. However, the highlight of her career in volunteerism was in 2018 when she became a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Heart of Missouri CASA in Fulton, Missouri.
Most recently, Susie is helping form NBCCS. She is passionate about this ministry, stating, “I believe our children need God in their lives, and I believe that parents are responsible for what their children are learning and experiencing in school. Children spend a great deal of time in school, and to have a curriculum which teaches God and teachers who love and believe in Jesus Christ is priceless in my opinion. I am excited about NBCCS and the potential it has to bring our children and community closer to The Lord!”
When asked why Christian education is essential to her, Susie reflects, “I have 5 children and 4 grandchildren and most of them have attended both Christian and public schools, primarily Christian. Once parents realize they are on the hook for what their children are learning in school, and take responsibility for it, a Christian education becomes essential. Christian schools have like-minded students and staff. We train ‘up’ a child (Proverbs 22:6), not train them ‘down’ into the beliefs of our failing culture. When the Bible, faith, and morals are built right into the curriculum, parents and grandparents can know their children are mentally and spiritually safe with the curriculum and what they are learning. Christian educators take care of the whole child—not just education but their spiritual wellbeing too. Christian teachers help children learn they are gifts from God and that they have a purpose in life, and they will help them find that passion and purpose. This, also, is priceless.”
